Pure taekwondo fun. 30 Black Belts from various schools in Paragon including some old black belts who need a refresher course in tying their belts. The workout was very traditional and had more laughing and jokes than kihaps. Ms. Roberts was lead student and could not quit smiling as she worked-out. Mr. Collett provided some very sensible self-defense and introduced Mr. Martin to “that sneaky backfist” that works every time (see picture.) 2001 World Champion and 2nd Degree Black Belt, Bill Twyford also worked-out and showed some of the young black belts that talent does not fade! Keep an eye out for the February workout dates and times.

From Ms. Lura Roberts:

Master Hauptman, Mr. Collett and I thought it would be fun to get together and do a Black Belt workout at the Conifer school. All Black Belts, current and past, Paragon or not, are welcome to attend at no charge on Sunday, January 22nd, 4pm - 6pm. Full uniform would be nice, but if you can’t find it (or it doesn’t fit?!), find some workout clothes and come join us! The workout is geared towards adults but we would enjoy having kids too! If you forgot the forms or need a refresher on how to tie your belt, don’t worry, it just means you’ll have even more fun catching up with old friends who don’t remember either ;-)

In fact, Master Hauptman would like to set up something on a consistent basis that would incorporate workout, sparring and even Tony Collett is wanting to join in and teach joint manipulation / self defense. If we have enough kids we would like to have a JR Black Belt class as well.

SUNDAY
January 22, 2012
4pm - 6pm
Note: This workout will feature a SELF-DEFENSE portion by Mr. Tony Collett. Mr. Collett is a 4th Degree Black Belt and Narcotics Officer for the Lakewood Police Dept. Mr. Collett will also be conducting a sparring clinic during the workout!

Aidan Gordon Horn

They don’t always only agree. When something needs to be said they say it. However, there are some things better left unsaid for the greater good and accomplishment of the mission. That is not a lack of thinking it is just sometimes the wiser course of action. As a leader, I have always followed a code of behavior called the - “Officer’s Code”. It is up to all instructors/masters to conduct themselves in such a manner that the prestige of our organization and ourselves will be high in the eyes of the public and of our students. A requirement for all uf us is that we so conduct ourselves deserving of the special trust placed in us as leaders of people. We must clothe ourselves with a scale of values that we know instinctively, not only the things we can do but also the things “that an instructor does not do.” This “Code” does not get less binding as one goes up in rank. The opposite is true: it becomes more binding.”

- by Sr. Master John Wargo

2010 Poster of Conifer/Bailey Paragon Martial Arts students from...

2010 Poster of Conifer/Bailey Paragon Martial Arts students from Ninja Star Photography.
Students, Parents and Instructors

I want to apologize for the length of the regional tournament on August 27th and the fact that we ran out of concessions at 1:30 and came up approximately 195 medals short.

I have placed the order for the medals and they will arrive in approximately six weeks, they are custom made so it will take a little extra time. We will mail them to your instructor as soon as we can.

The tournament had 828 competitors with approximately 1,100 competitions. It was by far the largest this region has ever seen or hosted. That was the problem - we anticipated around 650 competitors. This is a great sign that our region is headed in the right direction with our schools growing and the willingness to participate in regional events and become an even bigger family. We never intended this event to take the time it took.

I also want thank the judges and tournament director for not having any down time and pushing the schedule to its limit. We had so many people offering to help and it was incredible sight to see.

We also tested 105 Black Belts on Friday night and it was inspiring to me to see everyone having a great time and cheering each other on. Many of you came up and thanked me for a great event and I appreciate your understanding in this time of growth. We will be sitting down with the next few tournament hosts to insure that this problem does not happen again. Our leaders in this region are very proactive and we want to make every tournament is a fun filled experience.

Again, THANK YOU for participating and your understanding in the growth of our region.

Sincerely,

Master Ramsey Cross
Master Candidate Gary Betts

Fort Collins attends Regional Tournament

Congratulations to the 31 Paragon Fort Collins students who tested their skills at the recent Region 109 Tournament, the “Battle for the Mountaintop”, in Denver Colorado. We were very excited to see you at the tournament, and very proud of all of your accomplishments. We even had 8 students for which this was their very first tournament!
