Good leaders are good listeners and express their thoughts grounded in a clear system of values and priorities that has been developed by crystallized thinking. They don’t always only agree. When something needs to be said they say it. However, there are some things better left unsaid for the greater good and accomplishment of the mission. That is not a lack of thinking it is just sometimes the wiser course of action. As a leader, I have always followed a code of behavior called the - “Officer’s Code”. It is up to all instructors/masters to conduct themselves in such a manner that the prestige of our organization and ourselves will be high in the eyes of the public and of our students. A requirement for all uf us is that we so conduct ourselves deserving of the special trust placed in us as leaders of people. We must clothe ourselves with a scale of values that we know instinctively, not only the things we can do but also the things “that an instructor does not do.” This “Code” does not get less binding as one goes up in rank. The opposite is true: it becomes more binding.
